ASB in Serbia

ASB started its operations in Serbia in 1999, by establishing an office in Belgrade to support the implementation of a variety of projects in the field of emergency relief and the rehabilitation of social and public infrastructure. Since 1999, ASB has been distributing food, medicine, and clothing & hygienic items to the most vulnerable such as hospitals, orphanages and health centres.

During the period of 17 years, ASB Serbia has implemented projects totaling over € 30 million with funds from the European Union, German Government, USAID and private donations. Through more than 30 projects, 58 000 persons have been assisted in 63 municipalities in Serbia. ASB in Serbia has been focusing on the provision of durable housing solutions to local vulnerable population and refugees in both their integration within Serbia and their return to their places of origin. Up to this point ASB has reconstructed or constructed more than 1000 houses.

Next to the delivery of Humanitarian Aid, ASB started, through funding of the German Government, with the implementation of integration projects in Serbia aiming at the provision of durable solutions to both IDP and refugee families from the region which have decided to integrate their host communities in Serbia. In this content, the German government funded the construction of a total of 145 housing units between 2002-2010 in the municipalities of Bujanovac, Preševo, Medveđa, Leskovac, Pančevo, Paraćin, Kruševac and Topola. These projects where among the first ones of its kind dealing with housing integration in Serbia and were funded By the German Government under the Stability pact for South Eastern Europe.

The main donor for ASB in Serbia has been the European Union which has funded, through both the Delegation of the EU to Serbia and previously the European Agency for reconstruction a total of 10 projects between 2005 and 2014 dealing with the provision of durable housing solutions to IDPs and refugees in both their integration within Serbia and their return to their places of origin. Through these projects ASB has been able to provide housing solutions to a total of 315 families and economic sustainability measures through business start-up to another 520 families across Serbia. Next to the main target groups mentioned above, ASB has also been very active in the support to vulnerable groups in the Serbian Society, supporting projects and actions dealing with Roma integration and Persons with Disabilities. Since 1999, ASB Serbia has implemented projects totalling over € 12 million in Serbia with funds from the EAR, German Government, USAID and private donations.

ASB is a German aid and welfare organisation, engaged in areas such as civil protection, rescue services and social welfare services. As a non-political organisation, ASB has, since its foundation in 1888, provided rapid and direct help to all those in need of our support.
