ASB and HWAI join forces for support to Roma action plan in Bosnia

2014-07-14

Since June 1st 2013, in the partner- ship with the non-governmental organisations Hilfswerk Austria International (HWAI) and experienced local Roma association Kali Sara, ASB has been implementing the EU-funded project „Support to socioeconomic inclusion of Roma population in BiH.“ The project foresees the (re)construction of 150 homes, provision of associated technical infrastructure, employment generation and social inclusion measures for Roma families in need from 14 Bosnian municipalities. In order to adequately respond to primarily housing needs of Roma in BiH, Austrian and German NGOs partnered to provide qualitative changes concerning housing challenges faced by Roma population. This is not very often in the Balkans that two prominent international organisations reach the agreement on joint implementation of projects of grant nature. By using this approach and their out- standing performance, consequent re- sults in the past and confidence vested within Bosnian public administrations and authorities, ASB and HWAI have managed to agree significant financial contributions of € 530.000 provided by entity, cantonal and municipal authorities of Bosnia and Herzegovina for this EU project initially valued € 2,5 million but reached € 3.03 million due to provided contributions. This fact clearly proves the determination of both civil and public sector to join the efforts and funds for the increased benefit of vulnerable and marginalised groups and individuals in the country. This model of qualitative partnership and extensive cooperation with Bosnian authorities will be progressively used in the future as the tool for systematic approach to solving issues faced by those in social and economic need. Consequently, the model may serve as a practical response to institutional efforts in generating sufficient funds for future projects aiming at provision of better socioeconomic equity in Bosnia and Herzegovina. In line with it, ASB will continue investing its efforts in qualitative civil/ public/private partnerships for the benefit of all.
