Coordinated Sustainable Return to Kosovo – CSRK

2014-07-14

ASB Kosovo in partnership with Mercy Corps implemented the BPRM (Bureau of Population, Refugees and Migration) project CSRK from September 2012 to August 2013. Total value of the project was $ 477,000 out of which $ 228,525 was ASB contribution. Main objective was to support the return and reintegration of displaced people from Serbia to Kosovo with the assistance that included: improving housing, income generation, facilitation of inter-ethnic dialogue and addressing legal needs of returnees.

The CSRK project provided multi-sector support to 30 families returning to Kosovo, assisting 150 direct and 191 indirect beneficiaries. This support consisted minor repairs of returnees’ homes with up to 50 percent damage, provision of food and non-food items to all project beneficiaries, as well as basic furniture and appliances. The project also organized a five day vocational training for all project beneficiaries in Serbia. Income generation grants, in the form of livestock or small business set up, were provided to returnee families too. Since the implementation of the project started, the UNHCR, as well as staff from the local offices of the Ministry for Communities and Returns, were invited to provide further support to build inter-ethnic trust and the acceptance of returnees, minimizing the potential for conflict and promoting reconciliation. In addition, CSRK assisted project beneficiaries with obtaining personal, property and other documents that were a pre-condition for accessing government services such as health, education, pensions and social welfare.
