World Humanitarian Day 2023

2023-08-19

ASB is active in more than 30 countries worldwide to help people in need. On the occasion of today’s World Humanitarian Day, we present three ASB foreign aid department projects in Nicaragua, Niger and Bosnia.

After Hurricane Julia left major damage in parts of Nicaragua in October 2022, ASB provided 20,000 euros from its own funds for emergency relief and distributed food packages and hygiene kits to those in need.

ASB also built a 190-meter-deep borehole, with funding from the German Foreign Office, to provide clean water to more than 60,000 people who have fled Mali and settled in northwestern Niger since May 2023.

In the Western Balkans, ASB advocated for blind and visually impaired people. With funding from the Federal Foreign Office, ASB Bosnia and Herzegovina renovated the premises of an organisation for the blind and visually impaired in Teslic. The younger ones can now use the new space to study for school, the older ones can play cards in the rooms and can prepare food in the new kitchen.
